- Description
- The Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NAVEODTECHDIV),Indian Head, Maryland is requesting information on advanced control technologiesin order to identify the most promising means of improving remote andteleoperated control of EOD robotic platforms. A number of different types ofpertinent robot control technologies exist that have not been widely integratedinto existing EOD UGVs. The scope of this effort is to investigate theirapplicability to EOD robotics and leverage these advancements to bringadditional capabilities to EOD users. Ideal technologies should facilitateintuitive, teleoperated control of the unmanned platform in differentenvironments, including non-line-of-sight (NLOS) applications. In addition, these technologies should address the major shortfalls of currently fieldedsystems, including the cognitive burden placed on the remote operator, lack of situational awareness, and a bulky OCU. Innovative, non-traditionalcontrol technologies are desired that address these issues and are modular, scalable, and able to be integrated onto existing MTRS platforms fordemonstration purposes. Systems that are in advanced stages of development arepreferred, and an assessment of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) should beincluded in the description. Performance description is sought in the form ofwhite papers, brochures, specifications sheets, and points of contact. Technicalcontent is limited to five (5) pages. Design proposals requiring developmentalfunding are not of interest at this time. Because submissions will be reviewedby an independent third party reviewer, government use only (GUO) submissionswill not be considered. Technical questions regarding this RFI may be directedto Adam Shaker at (301)744-6858 ext.256 or by email: adam.shaker@navy.mil. _ SUBMISSIONS: Interested firms/research entities are encouraged to providesubmissions electronically to Jim Knesel, code 052 at james.e.knesel@navy.mil.Replies must be received not later than 3:00 PM EDT, August 25, 2008. Pleaseinclude the solicitation number in the email subject line. Each submission mustinclude a cover page which will not be counted against the page restriction. The cover page should include the business name, solicitation number, uniquetitle, technology area(s), names, address, telephone numbers, and emailaddresses of technical/business points of contact. This announcement is not aformal solicitation and is not a Request for Proposal. The intent of thissynopsis is to solicit information for market research and for planning purposesonly and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
