- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to issue a sole source purchase order to GE Healthcare BioScience, 800 Centennial Avenue, Piscataway, NJ, for purchase of all necessary components to an AKTA fplc chromatography system with fraction collector. The Influenza Division Molecular Virology and Vaccine Branch have been tasked with analysis of potentially pandemic viral proteins that will be produced in Vaculovirus and bacteria. These different types of protein will need to be separated from normal cellular constituent proteins and protein aggregates by their molecular weight and by their specific charge in order to obtain pure samples. MVVB personnel are producing such proteins continuously and a secondary system is needed to keep pace with current protein production levels and also, as these proteins have specific requirements as to atmospheric temperatures, it is also highly desirable to have a smaller system that can be utilized to process the proteins at a low temperature of 4 degrees Celsius which is compatible with the existing unit. The AKTA fplc is a smaller model with a corresponding footprint that has almost the same capabilities as the system currently in operation and has identical parts which are interchangeable. This particular unit will allow for maximization of limited refrigerated space by being able to fit into and take up as little space as possible in the laboratory refrigerator and will double current capacity of the Branch. System is fully bio-inert for bio-molecule protein separation. Its extendable gate rack saves bench space. Unit is compatible with NaOH concentration above 1M and Urea and GuHCI concentration above 7M. The AKTA fplc has a flow range of 0.05-20.0mL/min and is robust for high salt concentrations and viscous buffers, with transparent cylinders in which air bubbles can be detected. Pump heads do not need to be changed for different flow rates and pressure limits. It is also Unicorn-based, with the ability to generate reports with Method Wizard. Unicorn software is fully compliant with CFR 21 part 11 environment, has system validation GAMP (US equivalent), and electronic signature and electronic records. CDC believes that this requirement is met by only one provider. This procurement will be processed under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 and 6.302-2. Only one responsible source and no other sources will satisfy agency requirements. No solicitation is being issued. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement. This procurement is not set-aside for small business. For contractual questions contact Linda M. Young.
