Description
The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (DOC/NOAA/NESDIS) intends to modify an existing contract (DG133E-05-SE-5025) with the University of Nova Southeastern University to extend services for continued research in coral-based climate studies for the period commencing from time of award through July 31, 2009. This study involves coring and coral growth analyses of coral cores and geochemical analysis of 300-year old coral record. The overall aim of this work is to demonstrate: 1) multiple corals are capable of recording a common growth response to stress over a background of natural variability; 2) growth response of southeast Florida corals correlates to environmental stress conditions determined from geochemical proxies; 3) detailed geochemical analyses can help to confirm the correlation between growth rate and environmental stressor; and 4) correlation between growth and environment can be used to assess multi-century growth records for prior occurrence and frequency. This research is a collaborative effort between Dr. Peter Swart (University of Miami RSMAS) and Dr. Richard Dodge (Nova Southeastern University). This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures (NTE $100k) NAICS code 541710. This is not a request for a competitive proposal. It is a notice of intent to modify an existing contract for continued research.
