Description
Sources Sought – Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope This is a SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE to determine the availability and capability of potential small businesses (including HUBZone firms; certified 8(a), Small Disadvantaged, veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, and women-owned small businesses) that can provide the following: A commercially available laser scanning confocal Microscope for the characterization of pharmaceutical solids with respect to the thickness and volume of the particles. These properties are known to be important metrics by which to estimate performance of these pharmaceutical solids (e.g., dissolution or disintegration). In addition, the ability to obtain three dimensional (3D) profiles, make thickness measurements as well as cross sectional measurements and, in general observe the three dimensional morphology of pharmaceutical solids, will greatly increase our understanding of how morphology affects physical properties. Requirements of requested instrumentation: Instrumentation acquired through this request must be able to provide true color rendition with at least 3,000X magnification with no preprocessing of samples. Instrumentation must provide diffraction-limited height measurement (Z-axis or thickness). Instrument must be capable of making height measurements on transparent films. Included software must provide: •Profile measurements (height, width, angle of any selected cross-sectional profile) •Roughness measurements •3D measurements (volume, surface area, surface area ratios, etc.) – must be capable of controlling viewing angle, lighting angle, zoom level and Z-axis height using computer mouse; must be capable of providing “textured” images to display surface roughness. •Comparative measurements (profile, roughness and 3D comparative measurements for same cross-section for at least two objects on screen). •Image “stitching” – must be capable of combining multiple fields of view into one image for examination of larger areas. •Arbitrary setting of threshold for image binarization. Deliverables: Complete laser scanning confocal microscope including all light sources, optics, computer controlled stage, controllers and software to satisfy requirements listed above. Installation, IQ, OQ and training. Projected outcomes Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM or LSCM) is a technique for obtaining high-resolution optical images. The key feature of confocal microscopy is its ability to produce in-focus images of thick specimens, a process known as optical sectioning. Images are acquired point-by-point and reconstructed with a computer, allowing three-dimensional reconstructions of topologically-complex objects. Firms responding to this SOURCES SOUGHT announcement should indicate whether they are small business, the name, telephone number(s), e-mail address(es) (if applicable) of the point of contact. This information will be used to determine the appropriateness and type of small business set-aside. The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 454390. A fixed price contract is contemplated. Qualification statements should reference Sources Sought No. 1049300 and are due no later than 3PM, September 3, 2008, local prevailing time Denver, Colorado.
