Description
Notice of Intent to use the University of Idaho to procure a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service requirement for digital spatial maps that include the distributions of native species, the nature and locations of barriers to migrations, and the known distribution of target invasive species and pathogens. Imposed on these data will be other relational databases that include locations of roads, irrigation canals, and recreational access that might increase the human interactions and possibilities of introduction, along with likely habitat changes from global climate change. This database will allow resource managers in Idaho to prioritize projects based on risks and benefits to aquatic species, the number and types of barriers within drainages, and the ability to provide passage in a cost effective manner. POC: Lorrie J. Gleghorn 503-231-2392. Objectives 1) Provide GIS derived maps and summaries of the range, migration barriers, and habitat characteristics of native fish species of concern in Idaho. 2) Prepare and summarize GIS derived maps of known information on aquatic invasive species and fish pathogens in proximity to the range of fish species of concern, as well as corridors or vectors or pathways of human activity that could increase the likelihood of introduction of invasive species or pathogens within the range. 3) Using these spatially referenced data sets, and GIS tools, provide models that can be used to prioritize and select barriers to fish migrations that if removed will result in the greatest benefit to native fish populations. 4) Using GIS tools, identify and prioritize areas of risk and needs for further evaluation and monitoring.
