- Title: Automatic Stainer/cytospin for Acid Fast Bacteria Smears The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and Tuberculosis Prevention (Global AIDS Program) intends to award a sole source contract under Simplified Acquisition procedures to manufacturer Wescor, Inc. 459 South Main Street, Logan, Utah 84321-5207 for the purchase of three Aerospray Acid Fast Bacteria (AFB) Slide Stainer-Cytocentrifuge; three 30-slide vented carousel for Aerospray; 3 Cytopro Rotors; ten sample Chambers w/fast, white Cytopads, P4/8; and 3 AC-160 Accessories and Supplies to improve recovery of AFB in HIV positive persons. No other products are available that are appropriate to stain AFB smears. Other automatic stainers utilize a common tank or well filled with stain in which a rack of slides are submerged. Submerging AFB smears into a common tank poses a significant risk for cross contamination and smears read as a false positive, resulting in inaccurate reporting and lead to the treatment patients that do not have active TB disease. This is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation is available. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed action based on response to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
