Description

The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, Rome, NY intends to solicit and negotiate a sole source purchase under the authority of 10 USC 2304(c) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1 with INRAD, 181 Legrand AVE, Northvale NJ 07647-2404, for two (2) Custom BBO Crystals. Though this notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, information received by the response date of the solicitation will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. The NAICS code for this procurement is 334419. Sole Source Justification: INRAD is the only source that can provide the mission essential custom Type II BBO crystal assemblies required for the Quantum Computing program. The crystals will be used to generate entangled photon pairs from an upconverted pulsed laser. The alternating layers of BBO and Calcite have opposite signs associated with their birefringence thus allowing for a total crystal with a net birefringence of zero. Not procuring the custom crystals would cause unacceptable schedule delays and considerable cost to the government.
