Description
The Smithsonian Institution is seeking proposals from qualified firms to provide professional services for design of significant computer interactives for a Presentation Center for the exhibition Moving Beyond Earth to be installed in the Smithsonian/Institution National Air and Space Museum (“SI/NASM”), Washington, DC. The exhibition shall interpret the story of human spaceflight through artifacts, immersive experiences, high-technology interactive kiosks, and a Presentation Center. The exhibition gallery is approximately 5,000 square feet with 20 foot ceilings. The exhibition shall be constructed in two phases: Phase I: The Presentation Center; Phase II: the remaining exhibit areas. The Presentation Center, Phase I, shall occupy about one-fifth of the exhibition space and shall open in September 2009. Phase II shall occupy the remainder of the space and shall open in late 2011. The exhibition will have a variety of computer interactives throughout both Phase 1 (Presentation Center, 2009) and Phase 2 (full thematic display, 2011) of the exhibition. This RFP is focused on concept development, planning and production of Phase 1 computer interactives that will be integrated with the Presentation Center. The contractor shall initially work with the team to develop concepts for the interactives surrounding the Presentation Center, including interaction between live and static presentation states. Because the exhibition is in early stages of development, final concepts for computer interactives have not been identified. A list of potential ideas under consideration is included in the Full RFP, however, note that the Museum currently estimates between 3 to 4 interactives will be developed in Phase 1. The contractor shall work with the project team to narrow and define concepts for the interactives prior to devising an implementation plan. Many or all of the interactives planned for the physical exhibition may be conceptualized for modified presentation later on in the exhibition Web site (to be implemented as part of Phase 2). After computer interactive concepts are identified and approved, the contractor shall specify equipment and connectivity requirements for the Presentation Center, which shall be provided to a separate contractor producing the design drawings. The contractor shall produce a detailed budget and implementation plan for the production of computer interactives software, including content, interface wireframe/storyboard designs, prototype testing/evaluation and a plan for the build out of all software solutions and their installation and testing prior to launch. The contractor may proceed with the build phase of this project provided acceptance and approval by NASM of the concept, budget and implementation plan above. The Smithsonian anticipates one (1) firm-fixed price contract will be awarded. The Smithsonian reserves the right to award a contract based on best value. It is anticipated that the selected contractor will provide said services beginning in October, 2008. Contractors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) prior to award. Registration may be accomplished at http://www.ccr2000.com/index.cfm, or 1-888-CCR-2423. Period of performance shall be from Notice to Proceed through July, 2009. Prospective offerors are directed to the complete Request for Proposal (RFP) submitted as an attachment to this Announcement any questions regarding this RFP or inability to open should contact Thomas Dempsey at (202) 633-7259, dempseyt@si.edu. The RFP will provide full details and deadlines for submission of offers(Deadline is 10/16/2008). Offerors will be required to submit technical and cost proposals as set forth in the solicitation.
