- Description
- The purpose of this effort is to support the Tactical Air Control Party Modernization (TACP-M) requirement by providing a single Universal Serial Bus (USB) IDM interface cable capable of supporting dual channels in order to support digital Close Air Support for Air Force Tactical Air Control Parties. A critical link in the dismounted digital Close Air Support chain of Air Force Tactical Air Control Party is a rugged, small, light weight, and low power portable computer that utilizes a PC Integrated Data Modem (IDM) to interface with Ultra High Frequency (UHF), Very High Frequency (VHF), High Frequency (HF), and SATCOM radios. Currently, the interface between the computers and the Integrated Data Modem is the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) slot. Many computers in this class lack PCMCIA support and eventually the PCMCIA slots will become obsolete as the computer industry is moving to other interface methods.
