- Description
- The Naval Air Systems Command Conventional Strike Weapons Program Office (PMA-201) has conducted a Market Survey of Industry to determine potential interested sources who have the skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required to successfully develop and provide the next generation FMU-139 Electronic Bomb Fuze, which will be identified as a FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze. The next generation FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze shall meet a higher reliability requirement than current legacy bomb fuzes, provide in-cockpit re-programmability, via an integral Serial Data Interface (SDI), with multiple arming and multiple function delay selections, and provide a moderate hard target penetration capability. The FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze contains a non-interrupted (in-line) explosive train. Once a valid launch has occurred, the FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze will arm and function as programmed by the SDI. If the SDI is not used, the FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze provides arm times and function delay times selected either by the pulsed power/Fuze Function Control Set (FFCS), or with continuous (turbine) power, by ground selection using the faceplate arm/delay switch. The FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze can be initiated by either an external proximity sensor or internal impact sensor. A closure ring secures the FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze in the three-inch diameter fuze well of the warhead. Prior to operational use the FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze may be stored, transported worldwide, installed in a weapon, loaded on an aircraft, and flown during captive carriage without release. The FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze is to be compatible with all tail fuzed, General Purpose (GP) weapons and their guided variants authorized to use an FMU-139, and the BLU-109 Warhead and its guided variants. The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Precision Strike Weapons Program Office (PMA-201) announces its intention to hold an Industry Day for the FMU-164/B Bomb Fuze. The Government plans to hold the Industry Day at Wyle Laboratories Inc. Conference Center, 22300 Exploration Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653-2013 on 4 December 2008. Industry Day will entail a 2 to 3 hour presentation by the Government followed by optional closed forum one-on-one side meetings between the Government and potential sources. The one-on-one sessions are limited to approximately 30 minutes per company. Companies attending Industry Day should limit their representation to no more than 5 individuals. Those companies that are interested in attending the Industry Day are to respond to this announcement to the POC cited in this announcement no later than Close of Business (COB) 10 Nov 2008.
