- Description
- SCOPE OF WORK PRESQUE ISLE BEACH NOURISHMENT Scope of Work: Work consists of, but is not limited to: purchase, delivery and placement of sand at designated locations along the beaches of Presque Isle State Park (PISP) peninsula for the purposes of beach nourishment. The sand shall be transported from an existing site stockpile, and additional quantities supplied by the Contractor from off-site sources (Type S sand). Work shall also include excavating sand from designated locations along the beaches (tombolo work) and delivering/spreading that sand at designated beach locations. All off-site sand shall be delivered and off-loaded at the North Pier which is equipped with mooring piles for docking delivery vessels and off-loading sand. Sand shall not be trucked to the site. Work shall be sequenced in strict accordance with environmental date restrictions. Due to the presence of a designated critical habitat area (DCHA), there is an environmental restriction against working in certain site areas between 01 April and 01 July each year. If the Piping Plover bird species is observed on Presque Isle, then the restriction within the DCHA is extended until 31 August for that year, and may be required for subsequent years. The DCHA extends over approximately 50% of the peninsula. It is anticipated that one IDIQ contract will be issued with an ordering period of 3 years with a maximum ordering amount of $4.5M. Sand Requirements: Type S Beach sand fill shall be obtained from an approved commercial supplier. Type S sand fill shall be reasonably well-graded, sound, hard, free of organics and other foreign and objectionable materials, and be approved by the Contracting Officer. Material furnished from an upland source shall be mined from clean, felsic-rich sand and gravel pits containing predominantly quartz and feldspar minerals. In addition, no more than 2 percent of the total passing the #100 and #200 sieves shall have carbonate mineralization. It shall meet the gradation requirements listed below.
