Description
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for a vessel to do seafloor sampling between San Diego and Los Angeles out to about 50 miles off shore. The work days will be 24 hours. The desired time to complete the work is April 21-24, 2009. Mobilization and de-mobilization will be at the Nimitz Marine Facility in San Diego, California. VESSEL REQUIREMENTS1. The vessel shall be fully licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as required by law and shall have passed all appropriate U.S. Coast Guard requirements for safety and seaworthiness. 2. The vessel shall be equipped with radar, depth sounder, safety equipment, medical kit, current nautical charts and it is desirable that it have GPS navigation.3. The vessel must have adequate accommodations for up to 11 USGS personnel to live aboard the vessel for four days. 4. The vessel must have a stern mounted U-frame or J-frame or boom arrangement capable of handling a box core weighing approximately 1,500 pounds or a gravity core system weighing approximately 1,000 pounds with maximum estimated pullouts of approximately 3 to 4 thousand pounds. The U-frame must be at least 65' wide and a minimum of 8.5 feet of deck clearance for deploying and recovering the box core. It should have a safe working load of at least 5,000 pounds.5. The vessel must have a winch capable of coring in up to 1,000 meters.6. The vessel must have tie down cleats for tag lines and means to secure coring equipment to the deck.7. The vessel must be able to remain on station for short periods of time.
