- This is NOT a pre-solicitation notice pursuant to FAR Part 5, but rather is a sources sought announcement to be used for market research ONLY. No awards will be made from the responses to this synopsis. No solicitation will be available at this time. However responses will be used to determine the appropriate acquisition strategy for a future acquisition. The Spacecraft Engineering Department, Control Systems Branch at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory is currently conducting a Microsatellite study with the purpose of seeking to obtain the latest information on low-cost Earth sensors for potential use in a low Earth orbit satellite space mission. As part of this effort, the NRL is searching for capable sources with the expertise, equipment, facilities, and personnel capable of producing a General Earth Sensor that meets the specifications defined below: Pitch/Roll Accuracy: +/- 1 degree per axis Field of View: minimum 10 degrees Radiation hardness: able to meet a 3-5 year lifetime in a 500 kilometer polar orbit Size: less than 12 x 12 x 12 centimeters (length x width x depth) Weight: less than 1 kilogram The deadline to respond to this announcement is Monday, February 2, 2009 by 4 PM EST.
