Description
The work includes furnishing all labor, transportation, supervision, material, and equipment and performing all operations in connection with the flushing and flow testing of approximately 600 fire hydrants located base wide. Contractor shall operate and flow test all fire hydrants in the system in accordance with AWWA standards (American Water Works Association Manual M-17, "Installation, Field Testing and Maintenance of Fire Hydrants".) and NFPA 25. The operation, location and flow test details of the hydrant tests will be noted and compiled in a report and shall be submitted to the government for a permanent record. The Contractor shall provide the proper number of personnel to insure the proper pressure drop required for testing standards. No Government personnel will be provided to assist the Contractor during flow testing and flushing of hydrants. Contractor shall meet with the Utility and Fire Department personnel to review the project guidelines and answer any questions on procedures. The Utility personnel shall also identify water pressure zones in the distribution system. If during operation, flow testing and flushing of the hydrants in the water distribution system, a failure of a valve or hydrant is noted, the Contractor shall contact the Government Representative as soon as practical. The Contractor shall use due care when operating Government water system features and will not be held responsible for failures during normal operation of hydrants for flushing and flow testing. Any damage to Government equipment or property due to negligence or improper operation by the Contractor will be repaired or replaced at the Contractor's expense as approved by the Project Manager or other Government Official.
