- Description
- The purpose of this amendment is to provide answers to questions received in response to the original synopsis solicitation. There is no change to the original response due date. The following questions and answers are provided: QUESTION 1: How many frames are required for the camera in this solicitation? ANSWER 1: The Government needs at least 16 images with at least 1000x1000 pixel resolution with at least 200 million frames per second and interframe time not to exceed 5nsec. QUESTION 2: Camera questions: What is the application? Please provide a brief description. What is the velocity of the object travelling and duration of time to image this event? How fast is the object of interest traveling that would realistically require 200 million frames per second? Is the actual requirement for 16 images at 200 million frames per second - which means 16 images with a 5nsec interframe time between images? If not, please clarify what is the minimum number of images required at 200 million frames per second. Reasoning: Our review of the requirements as stated, (re: 16 images with framing rates up to 200 million frames per second and 5ns exposure times) does not seem to be attainable based on the physics of intensified systems. The P46 phosphor requires a minimum decay time of 500ns otherwise ghosting will occur between paired double shot images. And 500ns/8 channels = 62.5ns for eight images, which would provide 16 million fps. The fact is to achieve 16 frames with a framing rate of 200 million frames per second would require a camera with 16 individual CCD's or channels, resulting in major issues regarding light sensitivity and vignetting. ANSWER 2: The Government is looking at shock waves and cracks as they propagate through materials and needs at least 16 images with at least 1000x1000 pixel resolution with at least 200 million frames per second and interframe time not to exceed 5nsec. QUESTION 3: High Intensity Controlled Light Source Questions: Please provide an idea of energy required per pulse. Please provide an idea of timing, re: the duration of the pulse. What is the distance from the camera to the object of interest? ANSWER 3: Light source is being sought for less demanding applications. Energy should be at least 1300 J per pulse with adjustable timing and capable of imaging events less than 10 milliseconds. The distance is 2-10 feet from camera to the object of interest. QUESTION 4: The requirements state the camera should not exceed 25 inches x 25 inches x 25 inches and 70 lbs. weight. Are these physical requirements based on limitations of the actual imaging environment, or would the end-user accept other dimensions in exchange for higher quality images with more contrast? ANSWER 4: The camera must fit within a 25 inch x 25 inch x 25 inch cube and weigh no more than 70 lbs. 70 lbs is the OSHA maximum weight that a person can safety lift unaided.
