Description
This is a notice of intent, not a request for a proposal. A solicitation document will not be issued and proposals will not be requested. National Institute on Drug Abuse, Office of Acquisitions- Neurosciences, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition, on behalf of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a noncompetitive basis Sage-N Research, Incorporated, 226 Airport Parkway Suite 638, San Jose, CA, 95110, for a Sorcerer 2 Integrated Data Appliance System (IDA). The Current Unit used has a Sorcerer 1 system that needs to be upgraded to keep up with the number as well as the size of data files generated by the two modern mass spectrometers. The upgrade will greatly diminish the time required for data analysis post data acquisition. Currently the Sorcerer 2 IDA is only available through Sage-N Research, Inc. The NIA assists Intramural Research Program investigators on mass spectrometry-based proteomic analyses of biological samples. One of the services offered by the NIA is LC-MS/MS analysis of biological samples using the LTQ-ETD or LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometer, which routinely generates spectral data files over 5-50 MB each (5,000 to 10,000 spectra). These files need to be processed through a database searching engine using algorithms such as the SEQUEST software program, to identify proteins and/or posttranslational modifications. Due to the large data size, each data file search may take more than 1-2 hours for simple protein identification and more than 3-5 hours for posttranslational analysis on a desktop computer. The Sorcerer 2 IDA system is a plug and play, fully integrated, high-throughput data analysis system suitable for analyzing 100,000's to millions of tandem mass spectra from ion trap mass spectrometers, particularly LTQ, LTW-Orbitrap, and LTQ-FT instruments. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition using FAR 12 procedures and is exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this synopsis. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Comments to this announcement, referencing synopsis number NOI878136 may be submitted to the NIDA, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition Branch, 31 Center Drive, Bldg 31, Room 1B59, Bethesda, MD 20892-2080, and Attention: Idella M. Simpson, Contract Specialist.
