- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) intends to award a sole source purchase order to the Southwestern Industries Inc. for the ProtoTrak 1630SX lathe accessories and options. The existing CNC systems in the machine shop are the ProtoTrak system. The machinists are familiar with this CNC system and currently able to use the ProtoTrak to fabricate parts with the milling machines. The ProtoTrak lathe will create a uniform CNC system for all the automated machines in the metals fabrication shop at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. Southwestern Industries is the sole provider of the ProtoTrak lathe accessories and options. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is January 26, 2009.
