Questions and Answers: Building 87 Exterior Doors Site Visit 12 January 2009 FA4419-09-T-0105 Q: Will the contractor be responsible for “headers” (door frame) on the doors with surrounding glass? A: No. The word “headers” in the Statement of Work (SOW) refers to the removable stop on the inside of the door frame. Q: Is the contractor responsible for removing the magnetic locks on the doors, and replacing them after installation? A: No, the Building 87 facility manager is responsible for removing and replacing of the magnetic locks. The contractor is responsible, however, for ensuring the doors have a place and necessary reinforcement (per SOW part 2.1) for the magnetic locks to be re-installed. Q: How much notice does the facility manager need to ensure the magnetic locks are removed before work starts? A: It is recommended to make contact with the facility manager at least a day before work starts. Work on each entrance must be started and completed on the same day, as no temporary enclosures are permitted, due to possible security breaches per SOW part 3. Q: Does the glass for the doors require any special treatment, or need to be a specific type of glass? A: Yes. Refer to SOW 2.7 for complete description of the required specifications for the glass. Q: Does the threshold need to meet any specifications? A: Yes, the thresholds should match the existing ones, being brushed aluminum. Q: Do the doors need a specific type of weather stripping on the bottom? A: Yes, the weather stripping should be brush type or equivalent on all doors, including the emergency door. Q: Is a specific type of hinge required on the emergency door? A: Yes, only a continuous hinge is permitted for the emergency door. Q: Do the stops on the emergency door need to be replaced? A: Yes.
