- In January 2006, the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC), San Diego, used Strategic Sourcing methodologies to successfully award two Nationwide Department of Navy (DoN) best-value solutions for the purchase of office supplies and materials. These solutions provided DoN Customers office supplies, printer toner cartridges and supplies, janitorial/sanitation supplies, industrial tools, and galley supplies and equipment. Historically, these supplies and materials are those items the Navy customarily obtained through ServMarts. These contracts have exceeded estimated savings, especially on the costs of many high demand office supply products. In addition to realized cost-savings, other key benefits included just-in-time delivery features for ship and shore installations-- offering pier-to-pier and desk-top delivery within 24 hours; and the ease of placing orders electronically via the DoD E-Mall or vendor created websit! es (the Virtual ServMarts). In an effort to continue providing DoN Customers a best-price/best-value solution for the acquisition of office supplies, we are seeking industry answers to assist in outlining a best business approach. Interested parties are asked to review and answer the questions on the attached document.
