Description
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences intends to award a contract to develop, install and fully deploy an integrated whole body magnetic resonance imaging/ positron emission tomography (MRI/PET) scanner to study traumatic brain injury among members of the Armed Forces. This equipment is for use by The Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM). It is understood that there is no commercially available, integrated scanner approved for human use. The whole body integrated MRI/PET scanner is to be installed in building 10 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The MRI/PET scanner will be capable of simultaneous acquisition of MRI signal as well as PET signal. Because of the dramatic surge in the number of returning service personnel exhibiting Traumatic Brain Injury there is a critical need for improved methods of treatment, therefore; the ability to more quickly develop and deploy this integrated, simultaneous scanner, as evidenced by similar projects or prototypes, will be a significant evaluation factor in selecting the awardee. The University is extremely interested in corporate input regarding feasibility and a realistic development and deployment schedule. It is anticipated that the successful offeror will be a c ommercial manufacturer of MRI and PET scanners for human applications, and a willingness to share the cost and/or risk of development would be a clear indicator of corporate commitment. The selected firm should also propose an interim procedure to begin immediate evaluation of returning soldiers until the integrated images are available. If your firm has the above capacity and is interested in making a proposal, please notify the contracting office by e-mail to the attention of Mr. H. Jeff Floyd, Contract Specialist, at jfloyd@usuhs.mil within 15 days. Please provide a point of contact; the contracting officer is interested in discussing this procurement prior to the release of the RFP ⨪
