Description
Delivery Order No. HHSN276200800517U SRA International, Inc. Project Title Engineering and Computing Support Services For the High Performance Computing and Informatics Office (HPCIO), Division of Computational Bioscience (DCB), Center for Information Technology (CIT), National Institutes of Health (NIH) The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has a requirement to modify Delivery Order No. HHSN276200800517U to acquire additional professional engineering and computing services from SRA International Inc., to support the High Performance Computing and Informatics Office (HPCIO), Division of Computational Bioscience (DCB), Center for Information Technology (CIT), National Institutes of Health (NIH). DCB engages in computational science and engineering collaborations with the NIH Intramural Research Program, and provides computational tools and resources for the NIH biomedical research staff. The DCB applies computing technology to research involving molecular structure determination and modeling, protein and DNA sequence analysis, and biomedical imaging; conducts and supports research in mathematical theory and biophysical instrumentation to explain biological phenomena in terms of chemistry and physics; conducts research and development in computer science and computational science and engineering; promotes the application of high performance computing to biomedical research and represents the Division to the federal high performance computing program managed by the Office of Science and Technology Policy; evaluates the overall performance of these programs; and communicates with researchers, both within and outside the NIH, to obtain and provide information and support concerning CIT's ongoing and future research. The HPCIO provides expertise and resources in high performance computing, computational science, biomedical informatics, and modern information technology to the NIH scientific community. The mission of the HPCIO is to (1) develop high performance computational methods and algorithms to analyze biomedical data and to simulate complex biological systems; (2) develop knowledge-based data management systems for the discovery of biomedical knowledge, including medical image repository systems; (3) provide high performance computing resources and software tools to NIH researchers, including special-purpose parallel computing machines; and (4) collaborate with NIH researchers and colleagues at other research centers in applying information technology to biomedical research problems. Delivery Order No. HHSN276200800517U was awarded to SRA on 06-09-08 to provide support to the HPCIO in the development of biomedical informatics applications and ontology-based knowledge management systems during a 12-month Base Period and five (5) successive Option Periods. The HPCIO is being tasked with additional NIH high performance computing projects that are within scope of Delivery Order No. HHSN276200800517U but were unforeseen at time of award. In order to successfully accomplish these additional projects, the HPCIO needs to modify Delivery Order No. HHSN276200800517U to increase the labor effort over the six year performance period. This requirement is being processed for HPCIO by NLM. Inquiries regarding this notice may be made to Joan Coulter, Contract Specialist at (301) 496-6546; Fax 301 402-0642.
