Description
Special Notice DARPA-SN-09-18: Dynamic Prevention of Biofouling Proposer's Day Workshop, Workshop Date: March 12-13, 2009; REGISTRATION DEADLINE: March 6, 2009; TECHNICAL POC: Dr. Judah Goldwasser, DARPA/DSO, Email: Judah.Goldwasser@darpa.mil; URL: www.darpa.mil/dso/solicitations/solicit.htm; Website Submission: http://www.sainc.com/dsobaa/ The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is hosting a Proposer's Day Workshop that will provide critical information on the program vision, the milestones, and opportunities associated with the development of an interdisciplinary team to respond to a Broad Agency Announcement. This solicitation is specifically for innovative multidisciplinary research proposals in the area of dynamic prevention of biofouling (DyPOB). The DyPOB program vision is to replace the current generation of antifouling coatings that require biocides or foul-release coatings which need ship operation at significant speeds to be successful. DyPOB will investigate surfaces that are inherently impervious to biofouling for extended periods, effective even at zero or low velocities, are biocide free, durable for several years, and whose effectiveness does not degrade over the life expectancy of the coating/surface. Proposed research should offer innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, technology, materials, and performance. Specifically excluded is research that results primarily in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice and those that include the use of biocides in the coating require use or generate hazardous materials. The DyPOB Proposers' Day will facilitate the formation of teams with the necessary expertise to respond to the planned BAA. The DyPOB Proposer's Day Workshop will be held at the Strategic Analysis Liberty Conference Center, 4075 Wilson Blvd., Suite 350, Arlington, VA, 22203. The goals of the teaming and information session are to: (a) introduce the research community (industry, academia, and Government) to the DyPOB program vision and goals; (b) explain the mechanics of a DARPA program and the milestones and metrics of this particular effort; and (c) encourage and promote teaming arrangements among potential organizations that have the relevant expertise, facilities and capabilities for executing a research and development program responsive to the DyPOB program goals. The teaming and information session will include overview presentations by Government personnel and a poster session to facilitate interaction and team building among the session participants. Additionally, a teaming website will be provided to facilitate these interactions and can be found at www.sainc.com/DyPOBTeaming. Potential participants should note that formation of teams with sufficient expertise to address all technical areas described in the forthcoming BAA will be critical to the success of the DyPOB program. DARPA will not be funding component technologies that address only a subset of the technologies listed in the DyPOB solicitation. DyPOB Proposer's Day Workshop participants are strongly encouraged to prepare posters describing areas of capabilities in order to facilitate communications, interactions, and teaming discussions during the poster session. Workshop details including registration, poster session, meeting location and lodging are given on the registration website at http://www.eventmakeronline.com/dso/View/index.asp?MeetingID=642 (Password = dypob (all lower case)). There is no fee for the DyPOB Proposer's Day Workshop. Registration is limited (maximum 100 people; 2 people per organization) by the venue capacity. The registration cutoff date is 4:00PM ET, March 06, 2009, and early registration is strongly recommended. Further administrative information is available from Ms. Jeaninne Gane, Jeaninne.Gane.ctr@darpa.mil. Additional technical information can be obtained from Dr. Judah Goldwasser, Judah.Goldwasser@darpa.mil. Please refer to the DyPOB Proposer's Day Workshop (DARPA-SN-09-18) in all correspondence. This announcement is not a request for proposals; any so sent will be returned. Point of Contact Dr. Judah Goldwasser, Program Manager, DARPA/DSO; Phone: (571) 218-4293, Email: Judah.Goldwasser@darpa.mil.
