Description
Grease Interceptor System Improvement Work includes furnishing and installing a Grease Interceptor System (GIS) to replace the existing unit, adjacent to the center cafeteria. The GIS shall include all appurtenant materials required by the supplier specifications and the applicable ordinances. The GIS shall be sized to handle a cafeteria load of at least 500 persons per meal; the contractor will provide calculations based on surveys that will justify the size of the unit to be installed. The GIS shall discharge an effluent in compliance with or exceeding the more stringent requirements of the local, state, or federal regulations. Prior to commencing construction, the contractor shall provide to the Center a submittal package (for approval and prior to the start of construction) that includes the following: 1. Material Submittals: The GIS shall be constructed of impervious materials capable of withstanding abrupt and extreme changes in temperature and capable of withstanding the traffic load where installed. 2. GIS shall be installed outside the building, in the general location of the existing unit. GIS shall be installed to be readily and easily accessible for cleaning and inspection of the pretreatment device, and shall be equipped with easily removable covers. 3. Access covers, not less than 12 inches in diameter, shall be installed in the lid of each compartment to facilitate easy access for cleaning and inspection. The covers shall be placed so that all internal piping is accessible for maintenance and inspection. The cover shall be at or near, but not below the finished grade. 4. Plans for new GIS shall be submitted to the proper authority for review as required. a. A description of plumbing fixtures draining to the trap, the number of fixture units as determined by the Plumbing Inspector and the calculations used to determine the proposed capacity shall be included in the submittal. b. The Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission shall approve the final plans prior to the start of construction. 5. All areas disturbed by the contractor’s operations shall be restored to their original condition upon completion of construction. B. DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING The contractor shall check all materials upon delivery to assure that the proper type, grade, color and material certification have been received. Contractor shall protect materials from damage due to jobsite conditions and in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. Damaged materials shall not be incorporated into the work. C.PRODUCTS Products specified in this scope of work shall be manufactured by one of the following: • Proceptor GMC 3000 • Highland Tank, HT-PGI, 6000 gallon capacity • AA Precast Concrete, 3 tanks at 2000 gallons each placed in series • Oldcastle Precast Concrete, 3 tanks at 2000 gallons each placed in series • Hanson Pipe and Precast, 3 tanks at 2000 gallons each placed in series • Other equal as approved by the City of Brunswick An anti-buoyancy slab is required where the subsurface water level may rise above the bottom of the tank at any time. There is potential for significant buoyancy forces on empty tanks during periods of high subsurface water levels. If material other than pea gravel is used for backfill, install a geo-textile filter fabric in the excavation to prevent migration of fines and compact backfill in 6" to 8" layers to 98% of standard proctor density. Install and level the tank on the backfill Futher Detail are to be found in the attached Contruction Bid Package.
