- Description
- NAICS Code: 541690 The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office in Radiation and Indoor Air (ORIA), under the authority of the Federal Acquisition Rules (FAR) Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures, intends to issue a sole source purchase order to the National Council onRadiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) for co-sponsorship (to include agenda planning, speaker selection and conference logistics) of a 2009 Workshop and Consensus Paper on "Applications of Computed Tomography in Emergency Medicine - Radiation, Roles and Responsibilities." The workshop will examine the characterization of the increasing usage of CT in medical diagnostic procedures, doses received by patients and the associated health implications, and the significant growth of CT applications in emergency medicine; the evaluation of clinical decision-making in use of CT imaging and development and application of appropriateness criteria, including emergency medicine procedures; the application of ALARA criteria and quality control measures in controlling CT usage and patient doses; regulatory requirements on use of CT in standard care and mergency medicine; and effective methods of communicating risks of CT medical applications to patients and medical staff. The contractor will assist in developing the agenda, organizing panels, and acquiring space for the workshop. The EPA will participate in the organization of the workshop including topics to be discussed and receive a copy of the consensus paper. Additionally, the EPA will receive admission for up to 10 employees to the workshop. NO SOLICITATION OR REQUEST FOR QUOTE IS AVAILABLE. The NCRP Workshop is a unique event, as no other workshop is similarly organized to focus on raising awareness of the issue of radiation exposure among emergency physicians and exploring ways to minimize radiation dosage without compromising medical care. Notwithstanding, any firm that believes it is capable of meeting this requirement may submit a response, which if received within two days of the closing date of this announcement, will be considered. Responses to this announcement must be made electronically via email to the Contract Specialist, Trina Fisher, at fisher.trina@epa.gov. No telephone inquiries will be accepted.
