- The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award a noncompetitive procurement to Planetary Science Institute of Tucson, AZ 85719-2395 for tasks outlined in the research proposal, "Formational History of the Polar Troughs in the North Polar Plateau on Mars" to NASA's Mars Data Analysis Program. Experience is required in photogeologic mapping and terrain analysis approaches for the polar terrains of Mars, using spacecraft data sets and customized software packages. Planetary Science Institute possesses unique capabilities essential to the work including 1) Expertise in photogeologic analysis of Mars datasets, specifically with Mars Orbiter Camera images, Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter data, Viking images, Mars Odyssey THEMIS images, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter HiRISE and CTX images and CRISM multi spectral data, and Mars Express High Resolution Stereo Color images and OMEGA Multi spectral data that are required for the tasks; 2) Expertise in processing data sets using customized planetary imaging systems software and other relevant software, and 3) NASA authorization. Also proficiency in Geographic Information Systems software is required to compile photogeologic mapping results. No other sources will satisfy the unique and essential qualifications in Mars photogeologic mapping and polar geologic studies. Period of Performance is one base year and three option years. This is not a request for competitive quotes and no solicitation is available. Firms that believe they can provide these supplies and services are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notification to the Contracting Officer within 5 days of the publication date of this synopsis. Determination by the Government not to compete this action based on responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining to conduct a competitive procurement. Point of Contact: J.
