- Description
- The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has established and currently managesthe Center for Edge Power to conduct research and educational activitiesproposed on behalf of the OASD (NII)/DoD CIO. The Edge Center focuses onresearch pertaining to Defense command, control and organization in general andon Edge Organizations in the context of Network Centric Operations inparticular. The research will be performed by faculty and students at NPS andother top-tier research institutions, and it will be integrated into a coherentresearch stream. This research opportunity description outlines five researchareas of interest: (1) Research Area A - Hypothesis Testing of Edge Organizations. Research inthis area seeks to employ tools, methods, and metrics related to network-centric/ power to the edge concepts (including agility) to various theories oforganization (including computational organization theory) to test hypothesespertaining to Edge organizations. (2) Research Area B - Near-OptimizingKnowledge and Power Flows. Research in this area seeks to understand how flowsof knowledge can enable and enhance flows of power to the edges oforganizations. (3)Research Area C - Infrastructure Enhancement. Research in thisarea seeks to develop appropriate tools to create virtual environments, and toexplore flows of knowledge, trust and power through diverse organizations in avariety of mission-environmental contexts. (4)Research Area D - Exploring andExploiting Intercultural Knowledge Flows and Organizational Forms. (5)ResearchArea E - Emerging Research.
