- The purpose of this Amendment is to extend the due date of quotes to 11:00AM EST, 1 April 2009. Additionally, to provide further Brand Name justification. The application for the Varian 320 is the determination of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs), Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) and Toxic Industrial Materials (TIMs) in vapor and liquid. Experience with vapor analysis of CWAs, TICs and TIMs in real time in a vapor state. ADTs lab is monitoring the concentration of compounds in real time without any chromatographic interface to slow down the rate of analysis. Data has been provided by Varian to show that they have performed this type of analysis. In order to receive the most complete information available regarding target analyte composition in various matrices, the mass spectrometer must utilize a triple quadrupole mass analyzer for efficient MS/MS analyses. LC/MS is a soft ionization technique, and for the best detection of analytes of interest in complex, dirty matrices as well as allowing for structural elucidation MS/MS must be utilized. This will allow for MS/MS analysis of low-level analytes in a dirty matrix such as the water, vapor and contaminant samples ADT expects to encounter. The mass spectrometer must utilize temperature programmable drying gas temperature which can be manipulated throughout an analysis. As some of the analytes ADT is interested in degrade with increased temperature and others need higher drying gas temperatures to be efficiently ionized, a system which incorporates temperature programmable drying gas is essential. In order to be the most robust and simple analyzer possible, the instrument must use one tune file for both the optics and analyzer. Multiple tune files make for complex analysis conditions for the operator. A single tune file will allow ADT to be more efficient with time. The mass spectrometer must also come equipped with both an Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (APCI) interface as well as an Electrospray Ionization (ESI) interface. As not all compounds are responsive to ESI, an APCI interface is absolutely necessary for our types of analyses. In order to maximize bench space the mass spectrometer must utilize a 180 collision cell and must have dimensions of not more than 15 in/38 cm (h) x 19.5 in/50 cm (w) x 28 inch/71 cm (d). Bench space is critical in the lab, and any extra space made available will contribute to the productivity of the lab.The mass spectrometer must utilize a lensless design for the analyzer. The curved collision cell and lensless analyzer design increase sensitivity by reducing chemical noice in the mass spectrometer and increasing ion transmission. Both of the features increase the overall sensitivity of the instrument. To have the most flexible system available, the mass spectrometer must be able to be converted by the lab personnel from an LC/MS/MS to a GC/MS/MS with an optional interface kit. As our project may change over time, this feature would allow us to simply convert the instrument rather than buy a completely new GC/MS/MS. This changeover can be accomplished by lab personnel while not requiring vendor intervention. ADT laboratories, for reasons listed above, requires a Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer with the features listed. Varian is the only manufacturer of a Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer that includes these features. Therefore, it is in the best interest of our laboratory for this purchase to be performed as a brand sole source to Varian for their 320MS with APCI Ionization Chamber.
