Description
This is not a solicitation. This acquisition will be conducted utilizing Part 13 of the FAR, Simplified Acquisition procedures, and the test program authorized in FAR subpart 13.5, and the Patent and Trademark Acquisition Guidelines (PTAG). THIS ACQUISITION WILL BE CONDUCTED UTILIZING EXISTING USPTO'S INDEFINITE DELIVERY/INDEFINITE QUANITY (ID/IQ) CONTRACTS FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS, A SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) plans to procure an upgrade to the existing brand name NetApp filers for the USPTO Enterprise Remote Access (ERA) environment. This announcement is considered a brand name justification for NetApp FAS6080-R5 hardware appliance. The USPTO ERA (Enterprise Remote Access) environment is a custom designed USPTO AIS that provides users with secure remote access to the USPTO enterprise desktop environment. This allows users to access other AISs to conduct official business regardless of the users’ physical location. Instead of maintaining dedicated desktop hardware for each user, ERA utilizes VMWare ESX Server to virtualize several instances of desktop OS’es on the same server while using mid-tier NetApp storage to provide server and storage consolidation. This design centralizes the administrative controls and reduces the physical and electrical footprint of the ERA environment without compromising the security requirements. Currently, the ERA storage environment is served by two groups of NetApp filers. This acquisition is to upgrade the two pairs of FAS980c Clusters (4 filers total) which provide LUN level access to the ERA VMWare ESX server farm, which hosts the virtualized desktop OS images. OS images include the users’ C: drive which contains locally installed applications and the “My Documents” folder. It has been determined to be more cost effective to upgrade the existing solution without replacing all the backend configurations and storage. This is the most cost effective solution to maintain this mission critical application. An award to another source would result in a substantial duplication of cost to the Government that is not expected to be recovered through competition.
