Description
The Caribou-Targhee National Forest is requesting proposals for construction of two road bridges near Driggs, Idaho on the Teton Basin Ranger District. Access to the sites from Driggs is partly on bituminous and gravel surfaced roads. Structures are to be designed by the contractor and shall be in accordance with the current edition of AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications as detailed on the plans. The project consist of; removing and disposing of two timber bridges with abutments, excavating new stream channels, furnish and installing precast concrete open bottom box culverts with wingwalls, furnish and place riprap bank stabilization rock with geotextile, construct roadway approaches, furnish and install crushed aggregate road surfacing, and furnish and install Type 3 object markers with post. All construction and materials shall be in accordance with the plans and specifications. A borrow source has been located near the north site that may be used to construct the subgrades for the approaches of both structures. Construction will need to follow applicable stream permits that the Forest Service will acquire. Work affecting the stream will need to occur between August 15 and October 31 2009. Staging and other periphery work may occur before or after these dates. Other closure restrictions will need to be imposed as follows: Road closures are to be at one bridge site at a time. Each closure may last for no more than ten calendar days each. The ten days may include only one weekend (Friday at 5:00 pm – Monday at 7:00 am). No closures shall be permitted during Labor Day weekend from 12:00 pm September 4 – 8:00 am September 8, 2009. A Site Visit is anticipated to be held on May 6, 2009 to meet at the Teton Basin District Ranger Office in Driggs, Idaho at 09:30 a.m. weather permitting. Access to the site may be such that the site visit may need to be posponed and rescheduled. Solicitation is anticipated to be uploaded on or about April 15, 2009.
