- Description
- This is a Sources Sought announcement, a market survey for written information only. This is not a solicitation announcement for proposals and no contract will be awarded from this announcement. No reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this announcement or any follow-up information requests. The purpose of this announcement is to Request for Information (RFI) on non-magnetic or low magnetic characteristic alkaline batteries in "D-cell" form factor. SCOPE: The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division is seeking information on commercial availability of alkaline batteries with low-magnetic properties, preferably non-magnetic properties. Form factor should be the standard "D-cell." (a.k.a. LR20) Typical commercial-off-the-shelf alkaline batteries are encased in steel jacket housing, this results in a strong and varying magnetic moment that is troublesome to deal with. A comparable alkaline battery in the same form factor and typical power sourcing capability is sought that minimizes this magnetic effect from the steel components. We'd be interested in learning about any power sources in the same form factor meeting MIL-DTL-19595 specifications also. This is part of an Analysis of Alternatives study. Descriptive information is sought in the form of white papers, brochures, specification sheets, briefings, and company points of contact. Design proposals requiring developmental funding are not of interest at this time; this request for Information/Sources Sought announcement may not directly lead to a request for proposals. RESPONSES: Interested parties are encouraged to provide relevant past experience, personnel skills, capabilities and abilities. Supporting literature and documentation that demonstrates depth of knowledge may be included in addition to the three-page narrative paper. Questions and response to this notice must be submitted by email to marlene.davidson1@navy.mil no later than 4:00 PM CST, 17 April 2009. Technical Questions must be directed to Robert Parker, e-mail: robert.h.parker1@navy.mil (Please note the "1" after the "r" in parker.) Naval Surface Warfare Panama City Division, Code A13 110 Vernon Ave, Panama City, FL 32407. This announcement should not be considered a commitment of any kind by the Government and individual correspondence should not be expected in advance of any resulting pre-solicitation notice for the proposed requirements. In the event a solicitation is developed, it will be assigned a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) number and the announcement will be published in the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO).
