- Description
- Full DARPA-BAA-09-34 document DARPA is soliciting innovative research and development (R&D) proposals in the area of electric field detectors (E-FED). The goal of this program is to develop devices that can detect small electric fields over large frequency ranges while being compact and power efficient. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice. Electric field sensing is often performed using an antenna and receiver combination. In these systems, the sensitivity is related to both the design of the antenna and the receiver electronics. Obtaining a system that has a high sensitivity over a broad frequency response is not possible. In addition, since the antenna size is related to the wavelength of the signal, the electric field detectors are relatively large (especially at lower frequencies) so that compact detectors and arrays are not possible. Sensor architectures that do not have an antenna (either optical or high impedance based) have as yet not demonstrated the high sensitivity of the antenna based systems. All administrative correspondence and questions on this solicitation, including requests for information on how to submit a proposal abstract or full proposal to this BAA, should be directed to DARPA-BAA-09-34@darpa.mil. See full DARPA-BAA-09-34 document attached.
