- Description
- Defense San Diego: Military and Industry Working Together To AdvanceTechnology in Acquisition of Major Weapon and Information Technology Systems AFCEA San Diego is co-sponsoring the 31st Annual C4ISR Symposium May 5-7, 2009. The San Diego Chapter has over 1000 members, of which over 300 are associate members through a corporate sponsor representing the heart of high technology in one of the country's most lucrative markets. Their mission is to improve government and industry preparedness in the field of C4ISR through cooperation, association, and the encouragement of education in related technical fields. The annual symposium has become one of the most informative, broad-based technical exchange forums of its scale. It flows naturally from the annual WEST trade show occurring in San Diego each winter. This years symposium is focused specifically on the interests of the San Diego community and opportunities within reach. The 2009 C4ISR Symposium will feature three days of forward-looking briefings, panel discussions, and product displays from seven organizations vital to the San Diego-based Defense Industrial community. Each is charged with developing, procuring, and/or delivering crucial building blocks that are pivotal to the security of our nation. Industry will be presenting industrys perspectives via panel discussions, displaying their wares in exhibits, as well as sponsoring the event. Our government co-sponsors for this event will be SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific, JPEO JTRS, PEO C4I, PEO EIS, PEO Space Systems, DHS S&T, and MCTSSA. On Tuesday, May 5, the multi-disciplinary Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Pacific will co-host the day. The day will be directed by Commanding Officer Captain Mark Kolheim, Technical Director Carmela Keeney, and key Program Managers. They will discuss examples of their diverse roles, ranging from fielding and upgrading technology and supporting elements of the GIG to conceiving, developing, testing, and conducting sophisticated Science and Technology demonstrations of crucial importance and interest to a broad spectrum of defense and other national agencies. Tuesdays events will also include an Industry Panel during lunch and presentations by the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology (DHS S&T) Directorate. On Wednesday, May 6, the Joint Program Executive Office Joint Tactical Radio System (JPEO JTRS) will co-host the second day of the symposium. Mr. Dennis Bauman and his team will present a full-range discussion of JPEO JTRS programs. JPEO JTRS will deliver their message about the JTRS capability to fellow local industry, government, and military contacts, and to listen to valued input and feedback. Wednesdays schedule will also highlight the work of the AFCEA Education Foundation during lunch and a new entry to the symposium, Program Executive Office (PEO) Space Systems in the afternoon. Thursday, May 7th will be co-hosted by the Program Executive Office (PEO) C4I. Mr. Chris Millers technical staff members and industry partners join to discuss major programs within the PEO. The program will detail significant technology important to the PEO C4I Masterplan, with technical portfolio discussions on applications, communications, networks, and platform integration with a special emphasis on Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). Presentations will spark an earnest and candid discourse between industry and military partners. Such a dialog is crucial to mutual success in delivering capabilities of the warfighter that will ensure their mission accomplishment. Thursday will also include presentations by two other new symposium co-sponsors, Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS) and the Marine Corpse Tactical Systems Support Activity. The San Diego Convention Center is this years venue. The symposium will host several networking events, allowing government and industry to exchange information. The goal of this exchange is to give industry the opportunity to invest in the correct technology to be competitive and to bring the government the best-value team for product development. The event also allows the government to learn what industry has to offer, encouraging the best solutions for warfighter needs, wants, and expectations. The AFCEA Education Foundation Golf Tournament will be held on Friday May 8, 2009 in association with the Symposium. The tournament will take place at the Riverwalk Golf Club in Mission Valley, San Diego. All proceeds benefit the AFCEA San Diego Educational Foundation for the purpose of public grants and scholarships for aspiring students who will be our future engineers and scientists.
