- The Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives is issuing this Request for Information in response to a requirement for a new standardized handgun system. The Government is gathering information for a pair of weapons consisting of one (1) full-size duty handgun and one (1) compact back-up auxiliary handgun from the same manufacturer. Specifics include: •caliber.40 S&W •polymer frame with integral light/accessory rail •maximum durability and long-term reliability •outstanding combat accuracy •consistent trigger pull with short reset •tritium powered night sights in a 2-dot (also called “dot over dot” or “figure eight”) configuration; •improved ergonomic features for right- and left-handed shooters of various size All interested sources are encouraged to submit company and product literature, references, and other pertinent information for the Government's consideration. Below are the specific details the Government is requesting for each possible candidate pistol (to include full size and compact models) •Slide length •Height (from top of rear sight to bottom of baseplate of fully inserted magazine) •Slide width •Overall maximum width •Weight (including an empty magazine) •Magazine capacity •Trigger pull (weight, length of travel, reset distance) •Trigger reach (circumference from backstrap to face of trigger and back) •List of standard and optional passive safeties •List of standard and optional active/external safeties •Ergonomic factors related to compatibility for right- and left-handed operators •Ergonomic factors related to shooters of different stature and/or different hand size •Commonality of function & operation between full size and compact models •Previous reliability, durability, and accuracy test results •Previous independent environmental/corrosion test results •Maintenance/parts replacement schedule •Service life warranty •Availability of Safariland ALS duty and concealment holsters (for full size only) •Availability of Simunition-compatible and inert training guns •Provide Quality Control processes including live fire acceptance (type and number of rounds fired, acceptable accuracy and targeting requirements) This “sources sought” synopsis does not constitute an Invitation for Bids (IFB), a Request for Quote (RFQ), or a Request for Proposal (RFP) and it should not be construed as a commitment of any kind by the Government to issue a formal solicitation or ultimately award a contract. The U.S. Government is in no way liable to pay for or reimburse any companies or entities that respond to this announcement.
