- Description
- THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 001 TO THECOMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR OPTICALFIBER AMPLIFIER. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. Thisnotice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendmentwill not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer technical questions from vendors. Thequestions and answers are below.Accordingly,Question One (1): Does the fiber amplifier need to have adjustable or fixed gain? I.e. doyouneed external control of the pump diodes?Answer One (1): External control of the pump diodes is required.Question Two (2): Can you be more specific on exactly what are the input laserparameters? Is there a spec sheet available on the input laser?Answer Two (2): The input laser consists of an PM fiber-coupled, externally modulated(using acousto-optic modulator) DFB laser. It will have a peak optical power around10-15 mW and a pulsewidth ranging from 300 - 1000 ns. The DFB signal will have atransform-limited bandwidth. More information can be found in the following publication:Mark Stephen, Michael Krainak, Graham Allan, Haris Riris, Narrow-band, Tunable,Frequency doubled, Erbium-doped Fiber-amplified Transmitter, August 1, 2007 / Vol. 32,No. 15 / Optics Letters.Question Three (3): What is the required rejection ASE wavelength range or FWHMbandwidth?Answer Three (3): The FWHM bandwidth is 4 MHz. The ASE must be at least 35 dB below thepeak at the lasing wavelengthQuestion Four (4): Can you be more specific on the electrical delay needed?Answer Four (4): The electrical delay is required so that the same signal that modulatesthe input laser AOM can be used to drive the AOM between the pre-amp and the power amp tosuppress ASE in the pre-amp. A small delay will compensate for the optical path lengthbetween the first and second AOM.Question Five (5): AOM: will this be installed immediately after the output of thepre-amplifier?Answer Five (5): Yes, the AOM will be installed after the pre-amp to suppress ASE beforethe final amplification stage.Question Six (6): Electrical Relay, is this just for AOM driver only?Answer Six (6): YESQuestion Seven (7):Please also let us know the driving frequency for the AOM.Answer Seven (7): The AOM and driver frequencies are not specified as long as theymatch. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended.Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASAAcquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on 4/26/2009.
