Description
Description The Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) in Natick, MA is conducting a market survey seeking information from Industry, Academia and Government facilities on concepts of on-demand deployable technologies for sleeves and/or trouser legs on protective garments. The desired garment concepts would be worn in a stowed (rolled or gathered) configuration at the shoulder/groin, as applicable. When needed, the sleeves/trouser legs would be deployed to their fully unrolled/ungathered configuration to provide protection to the warfighter. * Deployment Mechanism o Some means of causing the sleeves and/or trouser legs to extend fully on demand. Mechanism should not preclude manual deployment as a fail-safe. o Mechanisms for deployment may include a means to facilitate manual deployment o System may utilize pressurized gas, electricity, nanotechnology, or any other mechanism. Mechanism used must not present any undue hazard to the wearer in any environment commonly encountered by warfighters. o Materials used to demonstrate a deployment mechanism do not need to be chemically protective or flame-resistant. o Mechanism should use no explosives or flammable materials. Concepts that do not meet all of the above performance characteristics may still be submitted for consideration. Concepts will be evaluated for their potential to be utilized for a protective garment. Vendors should provide a detailed description of the method of deployment. In addition to any working samples available, the vendor must provide a detailed description of materials utilized including: cost, any available test results (including test method utilized) which demonstrate the addressing of the characteristics identified above, MSDS for all component compounds, as well as a point of contact, phone number, and email address. Information provided should include: product description, performance characteristics, production lead time, component production location, final product assembly location, and illustrations/photographs with corresponding descriptive information that best describes the components. Vendors should also submit any available documentation, literature, and brochures pertaining to the mechanism, including citations of current users and benefits of your concept.
