- The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Research Service, Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, NE, intends to enter into a single source contract with Illumina, San Diego, CA for a 10 DGE-small RNA Cluster Generation Kits -GAII and 36 Cycle Sequencing Kit v3. We need reagents and supplies to support massively parallel sequencing on an Illumina Genome Analyzer platform that we can access through BARC. The Illumina GA is a DNA sequencer designed and built by Illumina, Inc. The technology for this system is based on massively parallel sequencing on a chip by binding DNA strands to the chip and creating “clusters” of amplified fragment in the local vicinity on the chip by a patented process. The technology is particularly well suited to analysis of microRNAs, as the read length is long enough to cover these small RNA fragments in much larger numbers than is possible on the alternative GS FLX platform currently in place at USMARC. Reagents required to run this system for small RNA sequencing include DGE-Small RNA Cluster Generation Kits and Cycle Sequencing Kit v3. Illumina is the sole supplier and distributor of the Illumina GA instrument. The DGE-Small RNA Cluster Generation Kits and Cycle Sequencing kits are only available through Illumina, and there are no independent vendors that provide alternatives.
