- Description
- Background: The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Norfolk (FISCN) are involved in a strategic sourcing initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to evaluate the most appropriate means of supporting Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Operational Commanders. The team is specifically interested in expansion of support capabilities as a strategic sourcing opportunity and development of specific recommendations and improvement of acquisition mechanisms for operational forces. The current area of interest is the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). U.S. AFRICOM is a Unified Combatant Command, which was established in October 2007 and encompasses 53 nations - an area of responsibility covering all of Africa except Egypt.
