- Description
- I. Introduction Battelle, Pacific Northwest Division, Management & Operating Contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is requesting information from prospective offers to provide a complete high-field 850 and/or 900 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer system with wide-bore (89 mm - nominal Room Temperature bore), low cryogen use, actively shielded (AS) - superconducting magnets and operating consoles, for state of the art solid-state molecular structure determinations and solid state studies. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a market research effort that will best address PNNL's needs. This RFI is issued for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Battelle does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or to otherwise pay for information received in response to this RFI. Prospective Offerors must have a history of delivering complete High Field NMR spectrometer WB systems above 700 MHz AS or NB systems of 800 MHz AS or above to be eligible and shall provide customer references. The system requires a 12 month delivery (or less) ARO. Battelle anticipates quotes for an 850 WB AS NMR system. In addition to the system requirements, the ascribed magnet diameter including bottom flange must not exceed 1802 mm due to siting requirements. This system quoted should consist of the main components indicated below. II. Request for Information Instructions Interested firms shall also provide information in the following areas as available: 1) A description of current experience, knowledge and capabilities directly applicable to the performance of the scope identified. 2) Brochures providing descriptions of equipment (including technical specifications and siting requirements), maintenance and standard warranty, along with a current published commercial pricelist. 3) Budgetary quotation for the system components listed in Section III. Please provide your expression of interest to the attention of the points of contact by June 5, 2009 via e-mail.. If you have questions or need additional information, they must also be submitted in writing to the points of contact. III. System Components The Each quoted NMR System is anticipated to consist of the following main components (this is how we presently envision these systems but this description is in draft format, prior to any RFP issuance): 1) Magnet Actively shielded wide-bore (89 mm - nominal Room Temperature bore), low cryogen use -- superconducting magnets. • Drift - 10 Hz/hr or below • High resolution - 0.007 ppm FWHM or lower on 1H liquids lineshape standard • Low cryogen use for liquid helium and liquid nitrogen. • Cryoshims • RT Shims - at least 24 channels 2) Console Capable of highest level Solid state NMR experiments with all accessories and components (adaptors, pneumatics, Variable Temperature control, preamps, relays, filters, components, pulse shaping, gradient pulses, total pulse programming control and delivers precisely timed RF events) included. Each channel will be highly stable and optimal for solid state NMR. Console will include a lock channel.. • 3 RF channels o Channel 1 - high band, with 1H/19F observe, spinlock and decouple capability  High Band w/ Driver Amp (800 W) included relays to switch to low power (100 W) o Channel 2 - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 30-340 MHz, > 800 W) o Channel 3 - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 10-130 MHz, > 800 W). • Digital receiver (capable of Wide-line solids) • VT capable for Solids o Computer-controlled liquid/solid sample temperature management from -150C to +250C with 0.1 C resolution. Includes all preconditioning gas controller(s) (i.e. -100C FTS unit), temperature stacks, gas flow controls, exchangers and containers required for operation between -100C-250C. Actual temperature performance may be limited by VT range of an individual probe. • MAS Speed Controller o Provides automated MAS speed control, including start, stop and rotor synchronization. o Optional manual spinning control, user selectable. • Low gamma solid state NMR (observation down to 20 MHz or lower frequency). • Lock Channel • Software/ computer system/ site license for all relevant software 3) Probes • 3.2 mm HXY MAS probe (31P- 13C, 23Na-15N) --- low E probe or equivalent • 3.2 mm HXY MAS probe (31P- 13C, 23Na-103Rh) --- balanced circuit • Triple (HXY) MAS probe (greater than 60 KHz spinning) All Items above are anticipated to be part of a required system considered for pricing. All components shall be delivered within 12 months ARO. Options Battelle will also consider the following items as options, including but not limited to: • 4th RF Channel - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 20-220 MHz, > 800 W) • Extra receivers • Extra amplifiers (various frequency ranges and power) • Extra Solid State NMR probes o large volume (5mm diameter rotors or larger) HX MAS - low gamma (down to 103Rh) capable, o Triple (HXY) > 40kHz MAS, o extended high (≥150°C) Temperature probes, o extended low (<-100°C) temperature probes, • Extra Rotor kits/packing tools. • Extra Preamp/ filter kits • Any other options prospective Offerors may believe the customer may have a potential interest in acquiring
