- Description
- I. Introduction Battelle, Pacific Northwest Division, Management & Operating Contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is requesting information from prospective offers to provide a complete high-field 700 and/or 750 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer system, with wide-bore (89 mm - nominal Room Temperature bore), low cryogen use, actively shielded (AS) - superconducting magnets and operating consoles, for state of the art general purpose NMR system supporting solid-, liquid - state and microimaging. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a market research effort that will best address PNNL's needs. This RFI is issued for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Battelle does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or to otherwise pay for information received in response to this RFI. Prospective Offerors must have a history of delivering High Field NMR spectrometer WB systems above 700 MHz AS, or NB systems of 800 MHz AS or above to be eligible and shall provide customer references. The system requires a 12 month delivery (or less) ARO. Battelle anticipates quotes for a 700 WB or 750 WB AS NMR systems. In addition to the system requirements below ascribed magnet must be non-pumped due to siting requirements. Each system quoted should consist of the main components indicated below. II. Request for Information Instructions Interested firms shall also provide information in the following areas as available: 1) A description of current experience, knowledge and capabilities directly applicable to the performance of the scope identified. 2) Brochures providing descriptions of equipment (including technical specifications and siting requirements), maintenance and standard warranty, along with a current published commercial pricelist. 3) Budgetary quotation for the system components listed in Section III. Please provide your expression of interest to the attention of the points of contact by June 5, 2009 via e-mail. If you have questions or need additional information, they must also be submitted in writing to the points of contact. III. System Components Each quoted NMR System is anticipated to consist of the following main components (this is how we presently envision these systems but this description is in draft format, prior to any RFP issuance): 1) Magnet Actively shielded wide-bore (89 mm - nominal Room Temperature bore), low cryogen use -- superconducting magnets. • Drift - 10 Hz/hr or below • High resolution - 0.007 ppm FWHM or lower on 1H liquids lineshape standard • Low cryogen use for liquid helium and liquid nitrogen. • Cryoshims • RT Shims - at least 24 channels 2) Console Capable of highest level multipurpose (solids, liquids, microimaging) NMR experiments with all accessories and components (adaptors, pneumatics, Variable Temperature control, preamps, relays, filters, components, pulse shaping, gradient pulses, total pulse programming control and delivers precisely timed RF events) included. Each channel will be highly stable. Console will include a lock channel. The console must be capable of microimaging as delivered including multiple receivers. It is envisioned that the microimaging capability and additional receivers will be quoted as a separate option. • 3 broadband low power RF channels - • High power transmitters o Channel 1 - highband, with 3H/1H/19F observe, spinlock and decouple capability  High power (800 W) including the ability to switch to low power (100 W) mode without recabling. o Channel 2 - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 30-330 MHz, > 800 W) o Channel 3 - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 10-130 MHz, > 800 W). • Digital receiver (should be capable of both wide-line solids and high-resolution liquids). • Pulse Field Gradient amplifier - 3 channels capable of producing 100 G/cm gradients. • VT capable for Solids (and Liquids) o Computer-controlled liquid/solid sample temperature management from -150C to +250C with 0.1 C resolution. Includes all preconditioning gas controller(s) (i.e. -100C FTS unit), temperature stacks, gas flow controls, exchangers and containers required for operation between -100C-250C. Actual temperature performance may be limited by VT range of an individual probe. • MAS Speed Controller o Provides automated MAS speed control, including start, stop and rotor synchronization. o Optional manual spinning control, user selectable. • Low gamma solid state NMR (observation down to 20 MHz or lower frequency). • Software/ computer system/ site license for all relevant software 3) Probes • 7.5 mm HX MAS probe (capable of spinning > 5 KHz; X tuning range 31P- 103Rh ) • 10 mm HX liquids probe (3H-19F, 31P-15N) • 10 mm HPC (direct 1H and 31P and indirect 13C) with triple gradient (100 G/cm) liquids NMR probe All Items above are anticipated to be part of a required system considered for pricing. All components shall be delivered within 12 months ARO. Options Battelle will also consider the following items as options, including but not limited to: • 4th RF Channel - broadband observe, spinlock and decouple capability (i.e. 20-240 MHz, > 800 W) • Micro-Imaging capability with o High performance triple axis gradients (at least 60 A per channel, 150 G/cm capable) with a 30 mm i.d. HX gradient probe (VT capable -5 to + 100C), and all adaptors/ components, software to perform imaging experiments. All shims/gradient upgrades, accessories needed for performing highest level imaging experiments. • Broadbanded RF section up to 1.6 GHz • Extra receivers • Extra amplifiers (various frequency ranges and power) • Extra Solid State NMR probes • (4 mm HX MAS, 3.2 mm HXY MAS probe (3H-19F, 31P-13C, 23Na-15N) extended high (≥150°C) Temperature, extended low (<-100°C) temperature, low e-field MAS probe for Bio-solids, Low-gamma MAS probe, etc.) • Extra Liquids probes (Flow probes, microprobes (1mm and 3mm), Triple resonance, 5 mm HCNP, 5 mm Broad Band observe with z-gradient liquids NMR probe (3H/19F, 15N-103 Rh), 5 mm HX liquids probe (3H-19F, 31P-15N) z-gradient and VT (-80-+120C); various other Direct or Indirect probes, etc)) • Extra Imaging probes (RF inserts, various sizes, DOSY, diffusion, etc) • Extra Rotor kits/packing tools. • Extra Preamp/ filter kits • Any other options prospective Offerors may believe the customer may have a potential interest in acquiring
