- STATEMENT OF WORK We intend to purchase a torque rheometer system. The system will have the same or equivalent salient qualities as those associated with the rheometer system built by: C.W. Brabender Instruments, Inc, 50 E. Wesley Street S. Hackensack, NJ 07606 There are three essential components to the torque rheometer system to meet our needs: 1) Torque rheometer/drive unit with data acquisition system (Intelli-Torque Plasti-Corder®) 2) Batch mixer attachment (Prep-Mixer® Mixer/Measuring Head) 3) Extruder attachment Part numbers are in parentheses. Torque rheometer/drive unit with data acquisition system (Intelli-Torque Plasti-Corder®) The heart of the unit is the combination drive/torque rheometer (01-45-000). This unit drives and controls the extruder screw (when extruder is attached) or mixer blades (when batch mixer is attached) and measures the torque required to rotate the screw/mixer blades. Additionally, the unit measures and controls zone temperatures of the attachments and measures other processing parameters (e.g., melt pressure). This information is collected and analyzed by the computer data acquisition system which consists of: 1)Dell Optiplex 745 computer system (01-41-000) 2)Color inkjet printer (01-40-000) 3)MixCorr software(626) 4)Mobile computer car (08-49-000) 5)Surge protection strip (01-33-030) Batch mixer attachment (Prep-Mixer® Mixer/Measuring Head) The batch mixer is an electrically heated mixing chamber (02-23-000) with a set of non-intermeshing, counter-rotating roller blades (02-22-026) to melt and blend polymers, disperse fillers and reinforcements, and blend various additives (e.g., lubricants, crosslinking agents, fungicides, coupling agents, etc). Measurement of parameters such as torque and temperature can be used to continuously monitor processes such as melting, dispersion, crosslinking, and lubrication of polymers and their blends/composites using standard methods (e.g., ASTM D3795). A loading chute (02-22-026) and cleaning kit (02-22-032) are also included. Extruder attachment The single screw extruder attachment is used to continuously process polymer/polymer composite materials, produce test specimens, examine extrudate quality, and can potentially be used to generate viscosity curves by capillary extrusion rheometry according to standard methods (e.g., ASTM D5422).
