- Description
- The U. S. Geological Survey, Central Region, Geospatial Information Office, National Spatial Data Infrastructure, Texas Office (USGS), located at 8027 Exchange Drive, Austin, Texas 78754-4733, has a requirement to update the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) database for the State of Texas. The project deliverables will be new name records with their accompanying attribute data submitted by email, a file transfer plan (ftp) site, or using an online GNIS submittal form accessible through the internet. All data and deliverables will be free from restriction regarding use and distribution. All acquired data may be used in The National Map. Based on information available, and in accordance with 41 USC 253 (c) (1) and as implemented by FAR 6.302-1 (b) (1) (i), the USGS considers this requirement to be a sole source to the University of Alabama, Department of Geography, Placenames Research Center, with offices located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The University of Alabama has developed an extensive and unique map reference library of source materials which are necessary to update GNIS data correctly and consistently. In addition, the core capabilities to perform this work include typonomic research requiring personnel with typonomic expertise. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Other interested concerns having the ability to furnish these services may submit a capabilities statement to the USGS contract specialist, P. O. Box 25046, MS 204, Denver Federal Center, Denver, Colorado 80225-0046, Attention: Gail Walker, no later than June 29, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Responses may be sent by mailed, delivery service, or emailed to gwalker@usgs.gov. All responses shall include literature, brochures, and other materials that respond to this requirement. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for this document without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request and will not be considered further. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. This is not a request for Proposal.
