- Description
- The Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia seeks sources and information for a lithium based battery system study which includes both primary and secondary chemistries. This study will address general areas of safety that should be assessed when determining the level of risk that an energy storage system could generate for the chosen platform. Of specific interest are lithium based battery technologies with ether primary and secondary chemistries as well safety issues associated with fuel cells and capacitors. The information requested will be proposed solutions that generate recommendations as to where Office of Naval Research could invest Science & Technology dollars to help reduce the risk of using electrochemical based energy storage systems, in particular lithium batteries, on board Navy platforms. This study also wishes to include a collection of current and past work being performed in lithium battery safety, system safety issues as they pertain to lithium batteries, and a analysis of where risk currently exist for deployment of lithium batteries. This sources-sought / Request For Information (RFI) is for planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a Request For Proposal or as an obligation on the part of the Government to acquire follow-on acquisition. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or otherwise pay for the information requested.
