Description
The firm must have five (5) or more years experience of successful design & manufacture of this type of WLS Fiber. Also, the firm must be able to produce, test & ship 13,000 km of 0.7 mm diameter (WLS) Fiber (fully meeting Spec. requirements) over a 3 year period (10/09 - 9/12). The light generated in the Fiber must have an average Attenuation length of at least 12 m at a wavelength of 580 nm. Fiber is composed of a clear polystyrene core doped with a fluorescent dye and clad with a layer of PMMA and a layer of fluorinated polymer. The dye, K27 or equivalent, absorbs blue light entering the core and shifts the wavelength by >75 nm from blue to yellow-green light. The dye has a high efficiency for conversion of the blue light and a low Attenuation for the green light. The two (2) free ends of the loop guide the transmitted light to the avalanche diode. The Fiber, whether bent or straight, must be resistant to damage by the liquid scintillator (cladding continuity is essential here) and maintain its light yield for at least 15 years.
