- Description
- Secure services for selective thinning and slashing of precommercial sized material and fuels reduction in identified locations. This is an implementation of the treatments approved by the Elk Bugs Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Beaver Park Legislation, and Research/Rochford, Boxelder, Graveyard, and Veteran Boulder Environmental Assessments. The intent is to reduce the threat of catastrophic fire on private and National Forest lands and improve the tree quality of the treated stands. The Contractor shall not use a mechanical chipping machine to treat trees and slash. The trees and slash shall be treated as specified by hand cutting and hand slashing. A skidder equipped with a brush roller may be used to treat slash. Prior written approval from the COR is required before a skidder is used in any unit. The objective is to improve tree quality and reduce existing fuel loading. All standing live conifer trees from two feet in height up to and including 7.0 inches DBH shall be thinned to the variable spacing guidelines indicated in 122 - Detailed Unit Information Table and 213 - Tree Spacing. The average spacing of the leave trees will be 14’ x 14’, with a minimum spacing of 12’ x 12’, and a maximum spacing of 16’ x 16’. The Contractor shall furnish necessary saws, fuel, sawyers, maintenance and related supplies, and own transportation, which include move-in and move-out costs, and daily travel to and from the job site.
