Description
The authorized project provides for the deepening of the ship channel from Station 6+53.19 of Cut-50 to Station 65+00 of Terminal Channel to a depth of 40 feet and an expansion of the Chaseville Widener by 100 to 200 feet. To facilitate the authorized project, the Phase III deepening contract will dredge the Federal Channel to a required depth of 42 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth. Total quantity to be dredged from the Federal Channel is approximately 1,508,000 cubic yards (cy). The Phase III contract will also include four (4) Local Service Facilities to be dredged to a required depth of 40 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth. All dredged material will be placed in the west end of Bartram Island (D/A-1 Cell A) which is located an average of 3.5 miles from the dredging location. Materials to be dredged consist of rock, consolidated materials consisting of dense compacted clay or silt, and unconsolidated materials consisting of sand, silty sand, silt and clay. Blasting will not be allowed under this contract.
