Please also see Sources Sought Announcement A2360090338 posted April 17, 2009 NPS Point of Contact: Sybil Winfield 303/969-2076, Sybil_Winfield@nps.gov Title: Geologic Mapping in West Virginia Units of the National Park Service The National Park Service (NPS) has undertaken a Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) of 270 natural area park units. Three park units in West Virginia; New River Gorge National River (NERI), Gauley River National Recreation Area (GARI), and Bluestone National Scenic River (BLUE) are included in these 270 areas. The contractor must be capable of producing a digital geologic map, defined as a map that depicts the geographic distribution at the Earth's surface of bedrock and/or surficial geologic materials and structures, on a published base map showing topography, hydrography, culture, cadastral, and other base information. Digital geologic maps may also contain a great variety of point data for specific sites, creating a 3-dimensional database, where applicable. A geologic map generally includes an explanation, description of map units and symbols, cross sections, and a variety of other information. Geologic maps produced under this contract must meet those standards as identified in Part I d of the USGS-NCGMP 2004 STATEMAP program announcement No. 04hQPA0003. Stratigraphic nomenclature must be consistent among all produced maps. This document can be found online at http://www.usgs.gov/contracts/STATEMAP/index.html. Traditional geologic bedrock mapping is required for areas in the identified quadrangles which ar outside the park boundaries. For all three park units, park management requires detailed surficial mapping within park boundaries. An example of the required mapping units can be found at: http://www.geo.wvu.edu/%7Ekite/SurfGeolMappingWVA.pdf For New River Gorge National River: The contractor will produce geologic maps covering 10 USGS 7 minute quadrangles in the park that the river flows through: Fayetteville, Winona, Hinton, Thurmond, Danese, Meadow Creek, Prince, Beckwith, Meadow Bridge, and Talcott. The mapping must depict in detail the geologic hazards present along the sidewalls and floor of the canyon. The completed maps must seamlessly edge match with each other. For Gauley River National Recreation Area The contractor will produce geologic maps covering two 7 minute quadrangles that include the park: Summersville Dam and Anstead. The maps will seamlessly edge match with each other. For Bluestone National Scenic River - The contractor will produce geologic maps covering two 7 minute quadrangles that include the park: Pipestem and Flat Top. An accuracy assessment (peer review) must be conducted to validate the final maps. Period of Performance for the entire project (all quadrangles mapped) is 36 months from award. Final map products will include: "Digital geologic map, preferably in ESRI ArcGIS 9.x or latest version; personal geodatabase (.mdb) for each digital geologic-GIS map with a Geologic Unit Information table and Source Map Information table, where applicable. At a minimum, all geologic features present on the published map(s) are present as GIS data, and are fully attributed shape files to standards as identified in Part I d of the USGS-NCGMP 2004 STATEMAP program announcement No. 04hQPA0003"Accompanying text and graphics containing map explanatory information, "A description of map units; "A stratigraphic column depicting stratified units;"Where applicable, a correlation diagram showing age relationships of map units;"An explanation of map symbols; and"FGDC compliant metadata for all files developed. These may be delivered via CD-ROM or by file transfer protocol (ftp), or some other suitable agreed upon electronic medium.
