Description
The solicitation for this project will be posted on or about June 29, 2009 with responses due by COB on July 29, 2009. Description: Work to be performed is the development of grazing utilities and modular algorithms to spatially partition grazing and nutrient distribution by multiple herbivore species for programming into Fire-BGCv2 model. Also the collection and application of data necessary to develop the aforementioned models shall be coordinated. A working knowledge of landscape data from the Desolation Big Game Management Unit located on the Umatilla, Malheur and Wallowa Whitman National Forests shall be required for model development. Leadership in utility module validation, design of simulation experiments including all statistical analyses shall be accomplished. Leadership on manuscript preparation shall also be accomplished. Services and products shall be provided in four phases. Phase I shall consist of approximately 20 hours per week of work from 7/1/09 to 12/31/09 resulting in delivery of a herbivore utility module introduction into the Fire BGCv2 model. The utility shall be spatially allocated among stands using modular algorithms based on logistic functions supplied by the PNW Station. Phase 2 shall consist of 160 hours of work from 1/1/10 to 6/31/10. Work during this timeframe shall be consultative to FS employee doing the actual programming and subsequent validation of the developed model. Phase 3 shall last from 7/1/10 to 12/31/10. Hours of work during this period shall be approximately 20 hours per week. In this phase the model shall be running and simulation experiments featuring variations of climate, fuels management, and fire suppression shall be input and the results statistically analyzed. Phase 4 shall require 120 hours of work from 1/1/11 to 6/30/11. This concluding phase shall involve developing a manuscript(s) for publication in scientific journals for scientific scrutiny of the developed model.
