- GENERAL INFORMATION Document Type:Sources Sought Notice Solicitation Number:N68335-09-RFI-0263 DESCRIPTION The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), Special Communications Requirements (SCR) Division, Webster Field Annex is surveying the commercial vendor community for all interested parties in the intended procurement of a class A/AB multi-channel Broadband RF Amplifier as required by the Atlantic Test Range (ATR), also part of NAWCAD. The ATR has tasked the SCR Division to integrate and demonstrate the functionally of a four-channel RF Amplifier as part of a communications simulator. The overall frequency range of the amplifier must be 2-2400 MHz. The overall device must have the following specifications at 25 degrees Celsius: Physical: Maximum dimensions: 19" W x 9" H x 26" D Maximum weight: 95 Lbs. Electrical Interface: Power: 100 - 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 1000 Watts maximum Radio Frequency: Type-N Connectors on Rear Panel, One per band Remote Control: RS-232 Controller Connector on Rear Panel. Environmental: Minimum Operating Temperature Range: 0º C to 50º C Minimum Operating Humidity Range: 95%, Non-condensing RF characteristics: Small Signal Gain Flatness: ± 1.5 dB maximum Input/Output Impedance: 50 ohms nominal Input VSWR: 2:1 maximum Max. RF Input +3 dBm This frequency range must be further broken down into Industry/Military standard frequency bands as follows: 2-30Mhz, 30-500MHz, 500-1000MHz, 1000-2400MHz. Each of these bands must have the following characteristics. 2-30 MHz Typical Output Power @ Saturation 300 Watts CW Minimum Output Power @ 1 dB Compression: 180 Watts CW Minimum Small Signal Gain: 56 dB 30-500 MHz Typical Output Power @ Saturation 100 Watts CW Minimum Output Power @ 1 dB Compression: 60 Watts CW Minimum Small Signal Gain: 50 dB 500-1000 MHz Typical Output Power @ Saturation 100 Watts CW Minimum Output Power @ 1 dB Compression: 60 Watts CW Minimum Small Signal Gain: 50 dB 1000-2400 MHz Typical Output Power @ Saturation 50 Watts CW Minimum Output Power @ 1 dB Compression: 40 Watts CW Minimum Small Signal Gain: 48 dB This RF amplifier must be capable of local control via front panel input or remote control operations via RS-232 interface. The following functions are required for local or remote operations: a. Channel selection (1-4) b. Select mode (Standby or Operate) c. Display forward and reflected power (dBm or watts) and the ability to read these values remotely d. Attenuate the input signal (up to 15 dB in 1 dB steps) e. Monitor/display temperature f. Display maximum reflected and input power g. set VSWR cut-off (Fdw power-Rev power in dB) h. Display fault condition and error code The amplifier must have ample fault protection circuitry to protect against high reverse or input power, high VSWR, and high temperature. For high reverse power, input power, or VSWR conditions, the fault circuitry must automatically increase the input attenuation in an attempt to clear the fault condition. If the fault condition still exists, the amplifier shall go into Standby and display the fault condition. Fault levels for maximum reverse power and VSWR must be adjustable. In addition to the above requirements it is desired that the multi-channel broadband amplifier be capable of operating on two or more channels simultaneously. It is also desired that the multi-channel broadband amplifier have a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 15,000 hours.
