- Description
- NOTICE OF INTENT TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Acquisition and Assistance Field Branch (Pittsburgh), Post Office Box 18070, Cochrans Mill Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15236-0070, hereby announces its intent to issue a purchase order to 3dMD, LLC, 100 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339 for NOTICE OF for 3-D Scanning System. 3dMD is unique in the field of ultra-fast 3D surface image capture and analysis for human subjects by virtue of: I ) Lighting -3dMD's image reconstruction technique reliably ensures quality geometry regardless of room lighting conditions or intense directional and/or reflected light. The image capture process is robust enough to work indoors or outside, including direct sunlight. Other 3D capture technologies must have "studio-like" conditions (blue-screen backgrounds, special lighting, sensitive mirrors, distance calculators, etc.) for equipment that is not meant to be used in high-throughput environments such as required by the CDC project. 3dMD9s cameras can be used in rugged, third-world environments and transported as checked airline luggage in regular suitcases. 2) Modularity and flexibility - While 3dMD manufactures a range of anatomy-specific imaging systems (i.e. 3dMDcranial System), each 3dMD system is constructed from a foundation of modular imaging components that serve as portable building blocks. This not only provides an easy upgrade path for adding components to increase capture volume, it also gives the user complete flexibility by quickly moving the components to reconfigure the capture volume for a wide range of standard and custom anatomical requirements. This "building block" approach enables easy on-site changes without sacrificing accuracy (10.2 mm) or the ability to keep common data sets across a research team. This is especially important if CDC will be working in concert with other government agencies and projects. 3) Proven Reliability and optimized workflow- With hundreds of global customers, 3dMD has been continuously developing and refining its sophisticated 3D technology products for 12- plus years. 3dMD9s systems are the most widely used ultrafast, high-precision 3D surface imaging devices in leading teaching institutions, hospitals and private practices worldwide and have an outstanding reputation for accuracy, speed, and dependability. Recognized for its commitment to scientific innovations in the field, 3dMD continues to provide advanced imaging systems to customers that are simple to use and reliable enough to withstand the pressures of imaging large numbers of patients in busy work environments day in and day out. 3dMD only utilizes medical quality machine vision photo sensors to ensure reliability, consistency and fidelity of its output images. 4) Compatibility, the 3dMDcranial system is fully compatible with other 3dMDcranial systems in use and also with a wide range of application software. 3dMD has an exclusive strategic relationship with Materialise who supply software which is widely used throughout the academic world ensuring that both companies are committed to cross support of each other's technologies. 3dMD also supplies the 3dMDvultus software developed in conjunction with leading clinical experts which has unique functionality important to these projects. 3dMDvultus requires highly accurate 3D surface images which are only available from 3dMDface or 3dMDcranial systems. 5) This system will be used to collect 3-D scan data for the project titled "Frequency of Fit Testing". In this project, face size and shape of 220 subjects will be monitored for a period of three years and respirator fit changes will be measured. Facial dimensions will be measured with traditional tools, however, inter- and intra-measurer errors are typical larger than 1 mm, i.e., 2-3 mm. There are other scanners available such as the Cyber ware head scanner. However, the cameras of that scanner rotate around the subject and a small movement from the subject can cause up to 2 cm gap in the scan data. The Cyber ware head scanner doesn't capture the chin and back of the head well. It is important to detect facial changes as small as less than 1 mm. The chin has been identified as an important site for respirator leakage. The 3dMD is the only system that meets these strict requirements we need for our project to capture mini scale size changes to face size and shape, including the back of the head. Responsible sources that believe they possess the expertise and capabilities identified above are encouraged to submit to the Contracting Officer within 15 days from the posting date of this notice, their written item description/item characteristics and pricing information in the format they choose, not to exceed 10 pages. Please forward the item description and pricing information to GLORIA GRUBER, Reference Number 000HCCLG-2009-69882, Phone Number 412-386-4967, Fax 412-386-6843, E-Mail ggruber@cdc.gov, All vendors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registry (CCR) prior to an award of a federal contract. The website is: www.ccr.gov. The Government will review any/all item descriptions and pricing information submitted and determine if other qualified sources do exist that could provide this requirement. Information received in response will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. If no affirmative responses are received within 15 days, in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), negotiations will be conducted with 3dMD, LLC,100 Galleria Parkway Atlanta, GA 30339 as the only source and a purchase order will be issued without any additional notices being posted.
