Description
The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command is issuing this 'Sources Sought Market Survey' for a potential requirement to manufacture a Medium Cable Cutter (MCC) tool. Contractor responses to this market survey are for information and planning purposes only. This market survey does not constitute a request for proposal nor is it to be construed as a commitment by TACOM to purchase or pursue the materials and services offered. Responses are voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this market survey and any follow-on information requests. Nothing contained herein should be regarded as basis upon which to seek payment, reimbursement or other consideration from the Government. TACOM is conducting market research for a potential requirement to manufacture a Medium Cable Cutter (MCC) tool. This potential requirement includes the following: Requirements: The MCC is required to be manufactured from materials such as Delrin, different types of aluminum, steel and brass as well as modified COTS (commercial off the shelf) components. The MCC design will require extensive machining of these materials, most of which very small in size, to fulfill all aspects of the drawing requirements. The design incorporates heat treatment, black oxide coating, black anodizing, heat shrink and other protective coatings. Most parts are custom made items that will be held to strict tolerances and strict approval evaluations. The manufacturers will be held to military specifications for not only dimensioning and tolerancing but also for specified coatings and heat treatment. The item shall be supplied with applicable user, operational and assembly instructions as well as a parts diagram specifying individual manufacturer part numbers that may be purchased for repairs. Upon completion, the MCC should be capable of cutting multi-strand wire and coaxial cable that is approximately 1/4 inch in diameter as well as solid core wires up to 10 gauge. It will have a mechanical advantage of approximately 6:1. The MCC shall be designed with an easily replicable device to allow for interchangeable heads to be manufactured if so desired. The MCC will consist of a handle, two extensions and a cutting head. Potential expected quantity to be ordered is a total of 68.
